Reviews for Butternut Squash Turnovers

Go back to recipe

I decided to make these in a smaller version, to be served as a passed hors d'oeuvre, cutting my puff pastry into 2 1/2" rounds and finely dicing my filling ingredients. I had just the right amount of squash mixture, filling 48 pieces. I immediately froze the unbaked turnovers which then only required 17 min to bake. These are a delicious and savory dazzler for a cocktail party or buffet. I will definitely be making plenty of these to have on hand for holiday entertaining.

I made these, actually this time last year for the first time a pre-dinner snack before going out to some Halloween-type festivities. They warmed us to face the chill of the early evening and kept us sated until we made it back for late supper. I since made them for lunch, served alongside a green salad and they featured in a Winter Vegetable Cooking evening I hosted. They're easy and a big hit.

These are great!  I am attempting to freeze and reheat them for a party --we'll see how that goes.  Here's a link to my blog post with pics of the whole process: http://www.recipemashups.com/2009/02/24/butternut-squash-shiitake-and-goat-cheese-turnovers/.

WOW! When will you make these again? Thats all my wife had to say after tasting these. An easy to make side with great presentation. Good with quartered aritchokes in place of the leeks also.

I made these for Thanksgiving appetizers and they were a hit! I actually made them the weekend before and froze them. I let them thaw for about 30 minutes then gently pulled them apart (since they tend to stick when freezing) but it tasted just as great as baking them fresh. I think I may have baked them a bit longer, say 3-5 minutes more but they were fantastic.

This looks great!  Do you think they can be frozen?  Anyone have any thoughts?
