Texas State Fair Pecan Pie

Rate & Review

This extraordinarily rich and sweet dessert was the winner at the 1996 State Fair of Texas State pie competition, which Dean Fearing helped judge. "Out of 140 pies, this one was it," he says. "Her name was Bobby Lee; she never told me her last name."

Pairing Suggestion

A Muscat’s citrus and honey notes will accent the flavors in this pie. The vibrant 2006 Travis Peak Select Muscato D’Arancia from Texas’s Flat Creek Estate is terrific. Or look for the gingery 2004 Terre Rouge Muscat à Petits Grains, from California.

Texas State Fair Pecan Pie

Because of those crust reviews, I went with crust listed with the chocolate pecan pie -- which believe is very similar to this one.  It was the best ever.  If you're planning on pecan pie for Thanksgiving, go for this one.  It cannot possible disappoint.

I have to agree that the crust was not great. But that may be because I am not that experienced at making my own crust. I made this receipe using a frozen pie crust and it came out great. This is one owsome pecan pie.♥

I made this for Thanksgiving.  The filling is awesome.  However, the crust was too tough - everyone requested that I make this using my own crust - my never-fail old fashioned pie crust using Crisco and ice cold water - always the best!
