Reviews for Three-Cheese Mini Macs

Go back to recipe

these were good and very cute. I didn't use american cheese but added gruyer and also didn't add the egg. I had to thin the bechemel just a tad. i packed them pretty hard and added buttered bread crumbs to the top. they came out and held together fine, I think it's important to let them cool in the tins for a few minutes.

For the person that had it come out a "globby mess," I would recommend not tapping out the excess cheese and cook a little longer. The crispier the cheese is that it sits in, the easier it is to come out.

I've made this recipe 2 years in a row for Super Bowl parties and they were a big hit each time with the kids and adults! They are delicious!!! I'm going to make them again for my friends 30th birthday party (she asked me to)!

These are great party food! I made a few additions because I thought the flavor needed a little kick.  I added a generous dash of paprika and of cayenne to the cheese mixture.  I also chopped and sauteed six scallions and added those.  I'm trying to freeze and reheat them for a party -- hopefully they'll weather the freezing well.  Here's a link to my blog post with pics of the whole process and how they came out: http://www.recipemashups.com/2009/02/24/three-cheese-mini-macs/.

Only gave one star because they would not let me give none.  Although a tasty recipe, they did not come out of the well greased pan and looked like a globby mess.  I was extremely disappointed and it was embarassing.  I kept saying it was a Food and Wine Recipe to give it some credibility, but it was just a mess.  May make for a regular casserole, but never, ever again like this.

These have been tried at 3 parties.  MAJOR hit at all--children and adults alike.  Last time I used skim milk and reduced fat cheddar and reduced fat American.  It was still fabulous.  I have sent this link to at least 30 people at their request.  It was suggested to add small pieces of ham and also to use as a good breakfast/brunch addition.

These were fun to make once, but probably not something we'd do a second time because on the whole they were just a little more trouble than seemed worth the outcome.

Great idea -- and definitely a crowd pleaser. But really begs for salt and a little extra flavor.

I made these for a family party - they were a big hit!  A great idea for an easy appetizer that will be enjoyed by guests of all ages.  The only problem I had is taht some did not hold their form very well - next time I will refrigerate before packing it down as suggested by other postings.

These are tasty and very cute, especially if you mix up the cheeses (I used smokey, & sharp, plus a little pepper jack). What holds them together is the sauce & packing them down hard. Easier to pack if the mixture has been refrigerated. Pack down hard. Bake till toasty and let cool in the pan before removing.

I LOVE this idea. It's great for  parties, family dinners or for someone like me who LOVES baked macaroni and cheese. I can make a batch, freeze it and have a single serving whenever I want it.

Like my regular recipe better, but the idea is awesome for porion control! Make ahead and freeze then thaw as needed!

Big hit at our annual Christmas party.  So easy to make and really tasty.  I think I filled the cups with too much mac, because a few didn't hold together, but no one complained!

HUGE hit at Thanksgiving this year! The kids (and grownups) were gobbling them up faster than we could make them. My only advice would be to pack them tight, bake them until they're super toasted on top and use a silicone mini-tin if possible. FABULOUS recipe!
